As fans of the scene, we were becoming increasingly annoyed at the lack of a good online resource to access information on the grime scene, whether it be a history of old sets and links to download them or just what a certain artists mix CD was called. To get this information, endless searching of forums and other online sites was required. How much easier would it be if it was in one place?
Eventually tiring of this, we decided to set up the Grimepedia, which is basically a website that works exactly like Wikipedia, although it is entirely grime based, storing information on anything to do with grime. From slang used in songs to make the music more accessible for people who aren't familiar with all the terms, to artists histories in the scene and the cd's, dvd's and vinyls they have released.
In January of 2008 the lack of a suitable place to discuss grime set us upon our second venture. Grimeforum was created to immediate success and quickly became the true home of grime discussion online. A successful first six months saw artists such as Terror Danjah, Random Impulse and Nocturnal joining the forum, with more recently one of the world's best known DJ's Tim Westwood joining us.
More recently we launched the newly created grimeforum homepage which features exclusive interviews, downloads and videos plus all the latest news from the scene.
After the success of grimeforum and many requests from users fior cheaper and more easily available grime, we set upon the creation of grimestore. Grimestore is currently being rebuilt for a relaunch later on in the summer when the well known Rinse DJ, DJ Vectra, will be taking over the running of the store.
Finally we reach this website. Grimedigital has been in the making for the past six months with time spent trying to give the user the best shopping experience possible. We set upon creating grimedigital early this year when many of our forum users were stating a wish for more Grime to be available in digital format.
After much discussion with staff we decided to create grimedigital but also decided that we would take time and care to make sure the website was ready to help fill the void in the scene properly. Now on the 1st July we will finally open our doors as a beta for the grimeforum users to test our store and help us find any last problems. We will look to launch the site and its full catalog later in the year.
